Fear isn’t equal to fear


There’s not only one type of fear. There are two important ones that we need to distinguish.

There’s that kind of fear that preserves us from death. I mean if you’re afraid of jumping off a cliff, then your fear comes from your life that wants to preserve you from death. Or if you’re outside in the wilderness and suddenly a wild animal looks you into your eyes – that’s fear that preserves your from death.

And then there’s that kind of fear that controls us. We’re driven by other people like the state, teachers etc.

In our world today there are so many fears that block us. And these fears don’t preserve us from death. They keep us off from life! Those fears were told us. Because everyone has them. And it’s just normal to have them. So we learn those fears in our childhood. But if we just think once of them fears… They don’t even make sense.

In our time in school we were afraid of bad grades. I was very stressed by this „You-have-to-make-good-grades-thing“. As I told you in this article here when I treated the topic „productivity“, I always was a good student. And the funny thing is: This fact, that I was a good student just made the fear of failing in exams much worse. When I got back a bad grade I was devastated because my parents and teachers always told me that my future depends on my grades that I achieve. I think most of you out there know that struggle.

But now if I think back I realize, that this fear doesn’t make sense at all. I mean what could a letter/number on a piece of paper do to you? It can’t hurt you or something like that. It’s just a grade that judges your answers on this exam. Not more, not less.

We grew up with it

We came in touch with those senseless fears when we were children. But when we grew up new senseless fears came.

Let’s have a look at the fear of losing our job.

So many people are afraid of losing their job each day. They imagine how it would be if they get up one day, drive to their workspace and their bosses just tell them that they have to denounce them. And here we talk about a termination without own fault. Termination because of too much personal in the company or financial problems.

This fear determines the lives of so many people. They can hardly think of something else and they’re always in a bad mood when they drive to work.

Also this fear makes no sense. This fear was thaught us when we were teenagers. We all know that it’s one of the worst things to lose a job, and that you’ll have a hard way in future if this happens to you.

What’s the point of this fear?

Nothing. I mean if you didn’t think of a termination and just go to work without that fear it wouldn’t be worse! It would be better – because you didn’t have that bad mood every time when you drive to work. I mean why should you let something that you can’t change anyway dim your light?

And who knows… if you don’t always think of it you maybe never get fired. Because you didn’t think of it. You just lived your life without worries. Doesn’t that sound much more satisfying?

What could you do against it?

Always when I have a fear of that kind that doesn’t really make sense, I ask myself „How could I influence this situation?“

Can I influence or change the situation? If the solutions to this question is „no“, then I just don’t worry about it anymore.

Okay it wasn’t that easy in the beginning. After all it is beliefs, that we have to ignore or change. But believe me: It’s possible! And when you managed to do it, it feels GREAT and your life gets so much easier!

All this has a lot to do with positive thinking. It’s always a decision how you feel mentally and what you make out of situations. And this is how you can fight your fears.

What’s the worst case?

That’s why I always ask myself what the worst case is.

Many people are afraid of talking in front of people. But most of them don’t even know why. They’re just scared. No matter why. By the way: I had that fear of talking in front of others as well.

Tell me what’s the worst case that could happen when you talk in front of many people?

Nothing. None will do something to you and you also don’t have physical handicaps after it. It’s just an experience that makes you stronger. And no, I don’t deny that there are situations where people don’t treat you nice. Maybe you have a blackout on stage and some people laugh at you. This feels painful, right?

That’s not your problem. Believe me – it’s his. Because with that reaction he doesn’t proof that you failed. He shows that he’s not ripe enough to treat other people with respect. But that’s not your fault.

Just do it

You won’t believe me how much easier your life gets when you just stop worrying about all that fears and things that don’t make you happier. Just start living and think less about all the things that could happen 🙂 Because this is exactly what you’re born for!

So many people renounce their joy in life just because they have too much anxiety.

I did it BECAUSE I was afraid

Meanwhile I set myself the challenge when I’m afraid of something. And it feels amazing!

My last fear that I’ve overcome was the fear of videos. I always wanted to film my words and make videos. But I was afraid of it. I thought things like „What if other people don’t like my videos?“ „What if the quality isn’t high enough?“ etc.

But one day I just decided to make a live video on Facebook. Just jump into the „cold water“ BECAUSE I was afraid of doing it. I was so excited you can’t imagine!

When I did it the first time it felt so amazing! I would have liked to embrace the whole world! That power was so great. I was proud of myself!
