Find your “why” – The purpose of your goal
What’s a „why“?
Did you every hear of the why? In this context here the „why“ isn’t the beginning of a question – but the REASON and the PURPOSE for your goal. If you don’t know what you’re really working for, you probably won’t achieve your goal.
It’s often the case that we do have goals, but don’t really know why we should give everything to reach it.
Sometimes this goals isn’t even truly our goal. It’s the goal of our fellow. Maybe we hear that a family member wants to buy a Ferrari. We think that’s great and just want to buy an expensive car as well, even though we did’t ever think of it before.
Then… If I’d ask you for your reason why you want a Ferrari you’d answer something like „Cause it’s fun.“ or „Cause it’s cool to have one.“.
If your reason for a goal is something like I wrote it in the last row you probably won’t reach that goal. Ok maybe you would, but just because it’s a material goal where you only need money for. But if you really reach this goal that way – believe me, it won’t be that great as if you had a real „why“ behind it.
Find your „why“
To find your „why“ and with it the sense to fulfill your heart desire there are many different ways. I personally have found my „why“ only by writing down my thoughts, my wishes, my imaginations.
Read below how I made it:
Your why has to be so strong that it can’t be disturbed by nothing!
Your „why“ must have been decided rock-solid. Because it’s not just a wish. It’s THE PURPOSE.
If you just wish for something you think it would be great if your wish comes true. But if it doesn’t come true exactly the way you wished for you still think it’s okay. Because it was only a wish.
A „why“ is the driving force and the motivation to reach your goal! And if your goal was the Mount Everest – you won’t be satisfied if you only climb the Matterhorn. Because that’s not what you worked that hard for and not what you truly want! It doesn’t fulfill the purpose and the reason. It’s just not 100%.
That’s how you find your „why“
As I wrote above: There are many different ways to find your „why“, respectively your „purpose“ for your goal. And that’s how I made my „why“ clearly visible for myself:
What are my priorities?
At first I wrote down what my priorities are in life. What’s really important to me.
What’s my dream?
In my article about goals I wrote that goals and dreams aren’t the same. ‘Cause dreams won’t be achieved. Dreams are dreamt. But goals are achieved. That’s why it’s that important to transform your dreams into wishes and to start walking step by step to your goal.
Why do I want to reach this goal? What’s the purpose behind it?
This question is by far the most important one on this whole process! You need to know what’s the reason to achieve the goal.
What’s my benefit if I have reached a goal? If the answer on this question is something like „I want to reach it because so many others also have it.“ or „It’s just really cool“, then this is no „why“. It’s just nothing.
Here a little example to show you what I mean:
My goal is to eat an apple this evening (and in this moment I don’t have an apple).
With a bad „why“ the whole thing looks like that:
„Why do I want that apple?“ – „For no special reason. Just because I like apples.“
Yes, I’d reach this goal, because it’s just a really simple goal. BUT if I reach it, the apple won’t taste half that good as in example two.
With a god „why“ the whole looks like that:
I want to eat an apple because I want to fight my allergy once and for all! I want to supply my body with enough healthy energy and I don’t want to be limited anymore when it comes to healthy foods. I want to enjoy it and eat much more apples with joy!
For some of you this probably sounds a bit exaggerated because we only deal with an apple here. In reality the apple I described in variant two is much more delicious than the other one. And this little example we can transfer to all them big goals too! With one difference: There we probably won’t even achieve our goal without a real „why“.
Achieving goals with purpose
If you can see the sense behind your goal, you can reach it! No matter what it is or how hard it may be! Let’s do this!
And how to reach goals easier I wrote down in this article. It would please me, if you’d read it too. I think you’ll like it too.
