Sam Cadosch - perfect, perfectionism - cover

Perfect? Hopefully not! – Did you know THIS about perfectionism?

Do you know that? You plan to do something. But in the end it just looks completely different. Your idea was so perfect but the result is everything else. And this is really annoying, right?

Earlier in my life things like that really stressed me. There were things that were perfect in my imagination but imperfect in real life. That’s what drove me crazy time to time.

I hated it the most, when the imperfect thing was a performance of mine in any area…

Sam Cadosch - perfect, perfectionism, is it perfect now

It’s not perfect? – I’ll do it again!

I love doing things with my hands and a pencil like drawing, writing, or things like that. But so many times I didn’t really have fun with it just because my imagination was so perfect – and while I was doing the thing I realized that what I’m doing here won’t be that perfect… and this pushed me down. Not as hard as it sounds now. But I just lost my pleasure. I went on. But without pleasure. Just because I told myself that I’ll do it. And then the result was never perfect…

When I was younger I placed extreme importance on my handwriting. I always wanted that beautiful page that loos perfect with my handwriting. And many times I reached this kind of “perfect“. But when I didn’t I really STARTED AGAIN WITH THE WHOLE WORK! That’s no joke.

It’s just a waste of time

Fortunately I’m a bit wiser today. I’ve learnt one really important thing:

Rather finish something in an imperfect way than perfectly never finish it.

You know what I mean? It’s much better to publish, hang up or submit “the thing” even if it’s not perfect. To be honest: It will never be perfect. Nothing is perfect. So don’t waste your time with trying to be perfect or do perfect things. It’s so much time that we invest in trying to be perfect – but in the end it didn’t even get better. And don’t forget them toxic, negative feelings and the stress you had while you tried to be perfect. Don’t always think that it’s not enough yet. ‘Cause it is. 🙂

Here’s another article I wrote about this topic: You ARE enough!

Less is moreSam Cadosch - perfekt, Perfektionismus, besser nicht - pin

We all know the saying “less is more”. And in this context I find it really matching.

Less thoughts and less perfectionism bring better results. Did you know that most people don’t like those “perfect” things? They prefer the cute little mistakes we make in our work and the cute little mistakes we have in our being. I mean, do you want a perfect partner? A perfect best friend? Or a perfect apartment?

Be honest. 😉

In the end we and our life are unique because of the imperfect characteristics.

Who I am today: Not perfect!

I’m really fast. Most things I do, I do in half of the time other people need to do the same. No matter if it’s the laundry or the writing of a new post. But even though I only need 50% of the time, the result is the same.

Because I’ve learnt to focus on the important things and stopped wasting my time with trying to be perfect.

I don’t want to upload perfect pictures or invent a perfect caption anymore. A blogpost shouldn’t be perfect either. It should be REAL.

Another reason why I changed is the fact that I care less about the opinions of others. When I was younger I always made sure that other people will like what I do or say. But today I don’t care that much about other opinions. This point makes my life so much freer.

Perfectionism prevents you from DOING

Sam Cadosch - perfect, perfectionism, wisdomSo many times I see people that are trying to be perfect so hard that they don’t even DO anything! They make plans and think 10 steps to the future – but they never start.

On Wednesday I uploaded a YouTube Video. The first video where I really talked to my camera and also the first time I used my new cutting program that I didn’t really use before. In my imagination I saw a perfect video that could have been the next blockbuster. Okay, joking aside. I think you know what I want to say. My imagination and my skills just didn’t match – logically.

Fortunately I’m busy with the topic “perfectionism” right now. That’s why I decided to upload it anyway. I just decided to do my best and learn some skills that are possible in this short time. And so I did. I learnt new things each day and was cutting this video.

Wednesday finally was the day when it was online. And I’m so happy that I did it! It’s everything but NOT perfect. But it’s real. It’s better to upload it now even though it’s not a blockbuster – than perfectly upload it in one month when no one cares about my Iceland Roadtrip anymore!

Benefits of “not wanting to be perfect”

The whole thing has many benefits that made my life much easier and happier 🙂

  • You save time
  • The result is REAL
  • You make yourself less pressure
  • You can do much more in the same time
  • You don’t have to worry about so many things that could go wrong
  • You DO it!

And also: Even if something IS perfect – that’s just your view. In someone else’s eyes it’s not perfect. “Perfect” doesn’t exist.

Stop worrying about perfect or not. The only important thing is that you DO IT!

Are or were you a perfectionist? How do you feel with this topic? Write it down in the comment box below! 🙂
